Mountain bikers at Baltimore County Council
Some of the mountain bikers who came to Baltimore County Council’s working session that included discussion of the upcoming resolution to support mountain bike trail access in Loch Raven Reservoir. Many more other also came, filling the meeting room.
Support for outdoor recreation at Loch Raven...
Now’s the time to thank our local government leaders for supporting efforts to bring a world-class, sustainable trail system to Loch Raven Reservoir.
It looks like important folks at many different government entities are close to reaching agreements on this big issue for Baltimore-area outdoor enthusiasts:

Germany loves howling American Eskimo dog!
Skoshi’s video has been getting a lot of views from this German website: http://www.hans-wurst.net/video/hund-heult-mit-sirenen/.
Very cool. The American Eskimo is a branch of the Spitz breed of dogs which have some German roots.
Didn't make it on NBC Today Show this morning
Skoshi is howling in disappointment. Stay tuned to this blog in case they do put him on in the future…

Korean Buddhist Ritual Song and Dance
The sound and movements of an ancient Korean Buddhist ritual came alive at Towson University on Friday. The ritual, called the Young San Ceremony, was originally a three-day affair and one of the most elaborate of Korean Buddhist ceremonies. The chanting, drumming, cymbals and dance was inspirational on a cold and damp evening.
It was the final performance by the Young San Preservation Group it...

I’ve started creating what I hope will be an interesting, fun and rewarding family movie project.
The basic idea is to have our family today collaborate on a message to future generations through the magic of movies.
Think about that. What would you want to say to or show people in your family who you will probably never actually meet?
While walking on the beach with Brenda, I was...

Senator Theater update
Baltimore City purchased the historic Senator Theater in May. The Baltimore Development Corporation is now seeking proposals from developers. The deadline for the proposals is Nov. 20th.
In the meantime, the city is allowing former owner Thomas Kiefaber to continue showing movies and having other events: http://senator.com/

Save the Senator: Donate & Speak Out
The Senator remains teetering on the brink of foreclosure.
Here’s an article with good background and facts: http://www.preservationnation.org/magazine/2009/todays-news/senator-theater-faces-foreclosure.html
A group of concerned citizens in the community formed the Senator Community Trust in late February as a non-profit organization to take over the operation of the Senator.

1 Bike + 1 Gear = FUN
A few weeks ago, I participated a special annual event called the Single Speed Punk Enduro. It’s a hard to describe, but it involves a lot of folks riding bikes with only one gear (single speed). I had a blast. Check it out:

Flordia Armadillo
Armadillos are spreading across the U.S. I saw this one in Fort Clinch State Park. Kind of cute, I think. There’s more info about armadillos on the video:
Back to Amelia Island
We said good-bye to Preston, Matt & Amy and started our trip back north to Baltimore today. We decided to revisit Amelia Island. We took a 20-mile bike ride. We checked out Fort Clinch, with nice beach areas, historic coastal fort and even some mountain bike trails. Then we ended up back in historic downtown Fernandina Beach and checked out shops. We returned for brick...

Charleston Rewind
First, our bike ride on the West Ashley Greenway in Charleston:
Then our campfire dinner on James Island, SC:
Sunny and 70 degrees
We continued our journey south for 270 miles. A gorgeous Florida day with no signs of winter. Our grandson Preston welcomed us with smiles to his wonderful home he shares with Amy & Matt. We will be here for a few days to spend with family.
Fernandina Beach Farmer's Market
We drove 220 miles south from Charleston and wound up in Amelia Island, Florida. It is a sleepy beach area just across the Georgia border. We spent the night in a nice hotel. In the morning we biked through town and stopped in at this quaint farmers market. We picked up some fresh produce and pasta.
Exploring Charleston
After drying out all our wet gear, we explored Charleston. Our campground is in a wonderful county park: http://www.ccprc.com/index.asp?NID=274. We checked out the paved bike trails, 50-foot climbing tower, water park, etc. We saw some surfers and a lighthouse out on Folly Beach. We rode our bikes on the West Ashley Greenway, a scenic and flat rails to trail path:...
Riding the storm out
A strong wave of thunderstorms hit us about 10 p.m. The thunder and lightening were at first spectacular, then a bit scary. Our tent roof held up to the onslaught, but we were in a low spot and took on some water. The storms lasted all night. We didn’t get much sleep and finally headed for a hotel room about 4 a.m.
Who rides bikes in the dead of winter?
I usually ride my mountain bike. But on this wintry day it was too mushy from recent snows to ride the trails. So four of us dusted off our road bikes. Our fancy, American made, steel bikes: Gunnar, Hollands & Independent Fabrications. I hadn’t ridden mine since last spring.
It was a hilly ride over 35+ miles through historic Ellicott City and back. Check out the big downhill on...

Inauguration video
This was our adventure on 1.20.09, a historic day for our country.
The video is a bit long (8 minutes), but check out the ending.
And check out some earlier posts below with some more stuff from Inauguration Day.
Gung Hei Fat Choi!
We brought in the new lunar year (Year of the Ox) with a visit to the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. The Johns Hopkins University Lion Dance Troupe performed a traditional lion dance, which promises blessing and prosperity while guarding against misfortune and dispelling evil spirits.
Who needs the Super Bowl
No NFL this weekend. So some of the guys from work got off the couch for a football game on the weekend before the Super Bowl.
Playing is way more fun that watching.
